Dear 8th graders,
I want to congratulate you on your amazing achievement. I have learned a lot teaching you all this year and have grown to love and admire each of you. I imagine that you are excited at graduating, a little scared of going to high school, sad about saying goodbye to friends and teachers, and looking forward to the summer. But may you embrace growth and excellence, may you always be generous, may you always say thank you and mean it, and may you be blessed in all you do. So with that let me end with a little poem of my wishes and thanks to all of you.
To all my brilliant and talented star students:
This past year has flown by extremely lightning fast,
But all that time with you all has been such a blast!
We studied the scientific method and tested airplane design;
And in working together each of you helped each other shine.
We investigated chemical changes and turned pennies green,
And over the year I saw each of you grow closer to being a mature teen.
We made molecule models of marshmallows colored blue and red,
And I was impressed to see the variety of talents so widespread.
We had in our class future artists, cooks, and even writers,
And others with futures as singers, engineers, or fire-fighters.
We continued our year and studied the universe and sun,
And I watched you in lab making moon craters in flour with such fun!
We researched and studied and sometimes felt so very drained,
And I always took your unique questions that often entertained.
Testing came and went with lots of bubbling and good intent,
And then off to Spring Break we smiled and laughed as we went.
I'm glad I was your teacher and I have come to love you so,
I can't believe the year is almost over and I hate to see you go.
You each have unique gifts and will go a great many places,
But always remember to go there with big smiling faces.
You leave me with such great memories of many a great time,
And I thank you all for listening to this rhyming poem of mine.
